On Saturday July 1, the 'Bike to the Beach' charity cycling event saw volunteers bike 120 miles from Leicester to Heacham, with AMA Waste Management as the main sponsor. Following on from the success of the inaugural 2016 event, riders this time raised money for Prostate Cancer Research.
AMA provided support for the riders, including health and safety equipment, an event car, bike repairs and the all-important food and drink breaks along the way. Thanks to additional charitable donations from AMA in 2016 and 2017, the event has now raised over £2,500 which has been shared between this year's worthy cause and the ChildSmile One Nepal orphanage project.
Bike to the Beach organiser, Dan Thompson, said of the event, "Although the riders find it gruelling, this is a really enjoyable journey which takes in some beautiful countryside along the way. Leicester is about as far from the sea as you can get in the UK. Having from moved from Norfolk to Leicester in 1997 I missed how easy it was to bike to the beach, which led me to organise this event."
"The ride takes twelve hours including rest breaks, and we are in the saddle for eight hours. The day would be far tougher without the support laid on by AMA, not to mention the donations they have given to our chosen charities. We look forward to running an even bigger and better event next year."
